The kids will be home from school in a short while and Easter is just around the corner.
Easter is that time of the year when a lot of families will be planning their first 2019 getaway to capitalise on the glut of public holidays and get rid of some of the office fatigue.
The Easter road trip is a tradition in many South African households with the annual spike in road traffic an indication of the number of people flocking the cities to get away from it all.
South Africans’ favourite holiday destinations
IOL shared some stats from Airbnb’s South African booking trends, and it looks like this year will be no exception with the Western Cape the destination of choice.
Margate, Durban and Ballitoville are the three Kwazulu-Natal destinations with the most significant growth in bookings compared to last year for the period from 1 March to 21 April.
Margate and Durban show a staggering 185.19% and 137% improvement on last year’s bookings respectively, and Ballitoville’s bookings have grown 96.36%.
Seven towns in the Western Cape make up the rest of the list with Saldanha showing the biggest improvement compared to last year at 127.27% and Cape Town showing the smallest growth on the list at a still very healthy 39.36%.
